Amos 8.5
Saying, When will the new moon be gone (next payday), that we may sell corn (make more money)? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah(bundle) small, and the shekel great(inflation), and falsifying the balances by deceit(cheating)?

If you look at this verse it says a lot:

Some greedy entity is waiting until others get paid so they will have money to spend on his product.

Consider this possible scenario:

• making the ephah(bundle) small -- Selling as little as possible.
• the shekel great ------------------- The money is inflated.
• falsifying the balances by deceit -- A finger on the scale.

True, this is in reference to food, but if one would look at the cost of gasoline these days:

• Making the gallon small (or the price of it high)
• The shekel great (or the value of the money is low)
• Falsifying the balances by deceit (look at the crude oil speculators, raising the price of crude oil for any reason they can think of.)

And don't think that the high price of fuel will not raise (or inflate) the price every other product in the country as producers pass their increased expenses to the customer.
